The Unique Curved Elevator at Hannover New Town Hall. A Fascinating Experience!
What a fascinating place this was! The New Town Hall in Hannover, Germany is quite an impressive place both outside and in. I was staying in Hannover anyway and decided to pop down to the New Town Hall after watching the Tom Scott video on its quirky and unique elevator. On the way I enjoyed the streets and some of the buildings of this lovely city and once I'd gone inside the Town Hall, well, it was certainly impressive!
Join me on this trip and I'll show you all the sights and sounds plus a full-length video of the actual trip in the elevator and I was quite priveleged on the day to be able to have it all to myself. I'll tell you how to get there, how much it costs, when it's open and what you can see on the way (and how to see it!). A bit of a departure for me with this video but I've had a few requests for me to film some of the places I see when I'm off on my travels. I hope a few of you can come along with me and please let me know if you enjoy this style of video. I may make some more!
Thanks as always guys for watching and supporting the channel. It is very much appreciated.
Cheers for now.
Mark

Is This REALLY a First Class Experience? Dublin to Cork with Irish Rail.
Переглядів 25 тис.День тому
There are two very different trains you can travel between Dublin and Cork on. The loco-hauled service and this the class 22000 DMU. There are pros and cons to both. Tbh, I was hoping for a loco-hauled set but the 22000 is not a bad train in itself. Big windows and comfortable enough but a very limited catering service, an unused kitchen area, 2:2 seating configuration and seats that look remar...
Holyhead to Dublin with Irish Ferries MASSIVE SHIP the MV Oscar Wilde

A very windy crossing was again forecast for my trip across the Irish Sea this time from Holyhead to Dublin with Irish Ferries. In this video I'll be showing you around the MV Oscar Wilde - Irish Ferries largest ship. We'll have a look at what it has to offer, check out the prices, the exclusive lounge, the external deck space and some of the scenery from the crossing and our arrival into Dubli...

I’m in Bangkok atm and for some reason, UA-cam cannot save the description to this video! Well, I’ll try again and hopefully it works……. I recently took a trip with Transport for Wales up to Holyhead. Nothing unusual about that you might say. But in this case, I decided to try a bit of a different route via Wrexham and Shotton which enabled me to try out one of those weird class 230 trains that...
Mixed Feelings! Plymouth to Roscoff with Brittany Ferries MV Armorique.

Not a good start to this trip I'm afraid! The ferry terminal at Plymouth, I'll leave you to judge whether it's suitable for foot passengers or not. Once on board, it was time for a quick drink before heading to bed for the night, arriving in Roscoff the next morning. Roscoff is a lovely town and easily accessible by foot. Heading back to Plymouth, I had plenty of time to look at the ship but I ...
My AMAZING Scenic trip from Luzern to Lugano via the Gotthard Pass. What a Train!

You have got to watch this! A truly amazing, awe-inspiring and thought-provoking journey from Luzern to Lugano (via the Gotthard Pass) with Swiss Federal Railways on one of their ‘Giruno’ high-speed trains. And what a train it was! The weather was a bit grey as we left Luzern but things soon started to brighten up and I'm so glad it did because the views as we made our way south were superb. Ev...
The Tin Coaster. Exploring Cornwall's Rich Mining Heritage (by Bus).

I had a few hours left in Penzance so decided to take a 'last minute' bus ride up to Boscaswell (Pendeen) on the North Cornwall coast. Only 35 minutes this trip, but it was a real taster of the rich mining heritage in this part of the world. Come with me as I show you the scenery, the bus and how much it all costs to enjoy a lovely day out by public transport from Penzance. There are quite a fe...

The Skybus Twin Otter from St Mary's to Land's End was my route back to the mainland after arriving into the Isles of Scilly on the RMV Scillonian III earlier on in the day. I couldn't believe the price of this trip! Another absolute bargain but if I could describe UK coach travel in a nutshell, this would be it. Yes a total bargain, but when you consider how far away it is from Liverpool to Birmingham and where the coach actually goes to on the way, it's no wonder you're left thinking 'why didn't I pay a bit extra and take the train'! Well, not everyone's in that ...

As a regular Coastliner customer between Tadcaster and York its nice to see the Coastliner getting a good airing . Its a fantastic fantastic service around the Yorkshire area. Just by way of a little bit of extra info they tell me that the drivers will drop you off anywhere and pick you up anywhere i.e. not necessarily at a bus stop if you do like walking but please enquire first

You should do that journey again, Irish rail, have the dirtiest carriages. With toilets, you wouldn't want to really use them at any time. the table tops are filthy. Whoever is contracted to clean these carriages should be fired. But then it is obvious nobody oversees the work .. and so the diabolical work continues

2 years ago, 2022, we were really still under Covid regulations, and it impacted on everything. I'm not sure if the full catering has even returned yet, but it was certainly all off back then, as was 'excessive' over staffing, etc. It's still not an amazing train or anything, but it is usually better than the experience tou seem to have had.

The Barry family have lots of history in Ireland, and one of their things was (is) tea. Ireland and the UK had a falling out over tea, well over 150 years ago, even when we were part of the empire. Ireland went its own way, so we had our own tea routes, etc, which is why many people say Irish tea is better. Less watery anyway. The Barrys became big importers. It's actually associated with Cork, whule Lyons Tea (another family) is conected with Dublin, but, Barry's is generally known to be the better of the two.

I remember in the 70`s there was a bar on the main deck. It must have been the Scillonian II. I was only a lad but remember seeing people drinking and merriment in the bar but up one deck people hanging over the side looking green in the rough sea`s. One of them my big Sister.

I vaguely remember being on a hovercraft on a family holiday, some company called Sally Line, I'm struggling to recall the from and to but I think it was Ramsgate/Dunkirk but was many moons ago as a kid. I might be mixing my travels up there and Sally Line was a conventional car ferry, can't be sure was so long ago. Perhaps it was HoverLloyd but i do recall it being fabulous fun and I grinned like a Cheshire Cat the whole time, rather like yourself in that vid Mark 😄 loved it 👍

I prefer the cheaper CAT 20 minute or so from Portsmouth Harbour. This connects conveniently with trains on the mainland to London, Cardiff, Brighton, Salisbury and involves no bus link. Trains at Ryde Pier also connect with the CAT service operated by Wightlink. Rough weather affects the Hovercraft much more regularly than the CAT or car ferry service which also takes foot passengers though with poorer on Island connections.

Like most people I have passed through Hanover on the train when travelling between Berlin and Amsterdam. I visited the Hartz Mountains on a school trip back,in 1993 and did travel on one of the steam railways you mentioned. Hanover looks a nice rebuilt city and certainly the view from the new town hall, looked great and for a low price. I always try and find a viewing point if the price is right when visiting any city, This week I went up relatively new 120 Fenchurch Street in London which gives fantastic views of the City and it’s free.

For the plaque at 3:50 - in short, they started building the church in 1347 on the site of an early romanesque chapel, the tower was built in 1717. (I guess they assume, everybody understands the bombing was related to WWII due to the date.) Since 1952 the ruins are a memorial for victims of war and violence. And for the elevator, Tom Scott concluded his video by: for a video about an elevator ride, that was a lot of steps. :D

Yes watching the Tom Scott vid inspired me to do this. I wish I had a few of his views! 😂 They we’re doing some work in the church inside and there’s also a statue in there which is in the video (though I forgot to mention it). An interesting place Hannover for sure 👍
